Salon Business Awards Finalists in 3 Categories

We have had some really exciting things happening in the salon this month,

The month started with really exciting news that we have made it through to the finals of The Salon Business Awards in the Green Salon and Retail Salon categories as well as being in the running for The Ultimate Salon Award.

We are very proud of this!

We are very proud of this!

GREEN SALON we are so proud to be in the final 6 in the whole of the U.K. for this award, this year we made the commitment to reducing waste and eliminating single use plastics from the salon completely, we did this with the help and guidance of Rachel from Plastic Free Penzance.

We started by changing our whole product range, we knew we wanted to work with a company that was committed to protecting our environment but we also needed to find products that delivered the very best to our guests. Kevin.Murphy was the obvious choice for us, we love the ethos of the brand and that they are a fashion led brand that focuses on healthy hair but has a brilliant styling range. The whole team got behind the change and have absolutely loved working with Kevin.Murphy to learn all we can about the products so that we can advise our guests on the best products for their hair.

We have also switched to using Paper Not Foil instead of using Aluminium Foil, Paper Not Foil is made from recycled industrial waste, they are reusable and biodegradable within 3 months. Traditional Aluminium foil can take 100’s of years to degrade. Another change we made was to get rid of our individually wrapped biscuits that everyone loved so much, we had fun trying out alternatives, first we had biscottis, which were lovely but they were so hard that one of the girls broke their tooth! Then we tried shortbread biscuits but they went stale very quickly! We have settled on good old fashioned Bourbons!

We have switched from normal shop bought toilet paper to Who Gives a Crap a brilliant company that uses 100% Bamboo paper and donates 50% of their profits to charities that bring toilets and sanitation to the areas that need it the most, did you know that roughly 40% of the worlds population does not have access to a toilet, that number shocked me!

We have installed EcoHead taps on our basins, these clever tap heads reduce water consumption by 65% and purify the water of salts and minerals, which can react with our colouring products, so when you have your hair washed in Hunter & Walsh you will be certain that your hair is clean clean!

We were awarded Plastic Free Champion Status by Plastic Free Penzance and are very proud to be part of an incredible community that is committed to solving the problems that our environment is facing daily.

RETAIL SALON this award has been given to us for showing our exceptional knowledge of our product range and for being inventive in how we deliver that to you, the guest! We have designed a Stay & Play Session that is an appointment you can book with any of our highly trained team members where you will have the opportunity to have a really good look, feel and try of our whole product range, your stylist will show you a selection of the products that are best for you and show you how to use them. This Session has proven to be really popular, watch our Social Media for offers that will be included in the Stay & Play Session over the next few months.

ULTIMATE SALON we have been entered into the finals for this award for showing excellent practices across the board from admin, staff well-being and customer service, just to be in the final for this category is a huge achievement and something we are immensely proud of. We couldn’t do what we do without the love and continual support of all of you, the guest, you are what makes our business the success it is today and for that we truly thank each and every one of you.

Nadine and I are off to the Award ceremony on 10th of June held in Sea Containers Canary Wharf, we are hoping to come home with a trophy!! Wish us luck, we will document our glittering night on our Social Media, keep an eye out for that!

UPDATE We unfortunately, didnt come home with a trophy on this occassion but we did drink our body weight in champagne and made some great new industry friends.
